Remote FAT of an ICSS Upgrade

CORE

Core has been asked to provide the technical lead for the upgrade of an ABB ICSS system covering a main platform and 4 wellhead platforms.

THE PROJECT

Core has been asked to provide the technical lead for the upgrade of an ABB ICSS system covering a main platform and 4 wellhead platforms, comprising:

  • Upgrade from 8000xA v5.1 to v6.0.3 and to the latest Microsoft Layer and upgrade virtualization
  • Upgrade of the control network.
  • Install of a Cyber Security Layer
  • Upgrade from SG400 to AC800M-HI controllers.
  • Upgrade from AC410 controllers to AC800M controllers.
  • Upgrade of remote operator stations(RoS).
  • Integration of multiple 3rd Party data streams.

THE CHALLENGE

Due to the COVID-19 working restrictions a method was required to enable the Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) to continue albeit with remote working. This involved integrating three main locations, Scotland, England and India.

CORE’S SOLUTION

Using Microsoft Teams, it has been possible to allow visualisation of the vendor DCS, Configuration and 3rd party screens at multiple locations during the same session and to be able to test source and destination data and logic results in real time.

Using mobile phone or tablets enabled a ‘walk around’ function where it was required to visually see controller LED’s or DIP switch settings or inspect cabinet build.

Using multiple testers has also enabled us to reduce the overall test time and cost of testing to the client.

The acceptance and use of digital signatures has allowed the test records to be signed and verified.

Offshore commissioning of the system upgrade shall be executed during 2021.
